So I got a call from one of my students who was all excited to tell me that Neil will be in town for a clinic in a couple of weeks. Surprised, I inquired at the drumshop to learn that it's only a tour of his huge new DW/Sabian kit with his tech Lorne Wheaton, no Neil.
If some of you have seen this clinic, is it of any interest, as there'll be no playing?
I'm not necessarily a gear whore.

DW needs to get over themselves.
I bought your drums. And paid 1500 too much. They're okay- but way overpriced and overrated.
It's just this kind of silly clinic that drives prices up for the average consumer.
Okay I'm done- don't mean to be a drag...

The kit is pretty incredible to see in person. Saw it the day after Randy at NAMM. It really is beautiful, and the attention to detail is unreal.

Seeing his kit would be cool & interesting.
Seeing his kit minus the man himself is kind of a bummer...
If NP himself WERE to be there, i would prob be more interested in hearing him speak about his musical life [selectively of his own choice & accord] AWA his career & Rush, moreso than hear him play...but him playing to a few famous Rush tracks up close & personal would be a totally cool bonus AW...why they don't arrange this sort of thing is a mystery, & most likely in the hands of NP himself [uncomf w crowds & accolades]...but i feel he & his endorsers could command plenty enough "respect" & control at a clinic. I'd def go see it if he were there in person, moreso than just the kit, altho as i said, it would ne interesting to see it.
Maybe one day soon he will re-consider the situation...
So on that note, however, the Horacio/Tooch clinic sounds like the much better of the choices...I'm jealous

Hey guys-
I don't actually LIKE doing my job that I'm overpayed to do behind my drums, so I'm sending my drum stool to cover the gig for me. Be sure to pay at the door to see it since I need a new motorcycle.
-or-
Looks like a typical Neil Peart gig: a boatload of equipment with nobody in the driver's seat. I can't believe this guy was my hero in the 80's....

DOH, petrushka
BTW - Paying for a ticket to see it is another thing...you mean, it's a pay thing - like a normal clinic? I def wouldn't be there. If i was going to do THAT, i'd just wait for Rush to Roll Their Bones back by on the next tour & do THAT.
But if it's basically a "freebie" [or within the ballpark of $2], then WTHeck...
Another reason why NP might not do these things might be the amount of possible [& probable] insipid personal questions from various unrefined maroons relating to select events in his personal life...

I've been following this topic for a bit now. Am I the only one that thinks this is completely ridiculous?
